Introducing CHARYK… our take on traditional Turkish slippers, with uppers handmade using beautiful leather seconds.
CHARYK are a good illustration of how we apply our mantra ‘make use not waste’ not just to the discarded materials we utilise, but also to traditional methods of making. CHARYK are hand-stitched for us in Southeast Turkey using age-old production techniques – skills which MAKU are determined to keep alive.
CHARYK Tinsel Silver’s uppers are made using stunning metallic leather with a gleamy silver finish. CHARYK’s soles are made using Water Buffalo hide – a thick, supple leather which gives these slippers a robust, flexible sole traditionally worn outdoors in SE Turkey. We recommend wearing your CHARYK slip-ons barefoot as socks can hinder your foot’s grip on their leather inners, and only wearing outdoors on dry days. They are best suited to a regular/narrow foot shape and with wear, their leather will relax into a glove-like fit making them your new foot favourite.
Creating these slippers has been a passion project for us… and the result? Curly-toed, hand-stitched slipper perfection!
